Mylari Agrahara Mysuru

Yummy Masala Dosa

The Mylari restaurants in Mysuru are famous for their uniquely tasting masala dosa. The butter laced Mylari dosa with chutney and sagu makes a great combination. Usually, the guests end up eating more than two dosa. I have heard people eating more than five of them and even ten!

Mylari Nazarbad Mysuru

Couple of decades ago, there was only one Mylari restaurant in the Nazarbad area of Mysuru. Later, one more cropped up in the same area. Now, there are more than three such restaurants in Mysuru.

I am not sure that if one single family has opened all of those Mylari branches in Mysuru. However, the unique taste of their signature masala dosa has remained intact in all the restaurants.

Mylari Agrahara

This time, we visited the Mylari restaurant in Agrahara, Mysuru. It was almost brunch time for us but the restaurant was still crowded. Thanks to the Diwali holidays.

Idli at Mylari

After waiting for half an hour outside the restaurant, we got a table. The masala dosa usually takes time to arrive so we ordered idli, until the dosa arrives! The idli is also so good and soft that one should not miss it.

More than two decades ago, I was frequent, mostly with friends, to the Mylari restaurant in Nazarbad. We used to wait in line for the table even at 7 am. The restaurant was not that big and the tables were too small. Even now, the situation is same.

The small seats in the restaurant could accommodate only two members of average size. An oversized person would occupy the entire seat. I wonder how he entered the restaurant. The doors were too small.

The Agrahara restaurant is little bigger than the one in Nazarbad. However, it can accommodate only two or three families.

The restaurant seemed to be understaffed. The scene of waiter being too busy to take orders and customers waiting patiently hints for expansion.

We were done with idli, dosa, kara bath etc. All foods were tasty and our plates were empty (plantain leaf). Then it was a coffee time!

We ordered for the coffee, it came without sugar. My mom ordered tea, even that came without sugar. I requested the busy waiter for sugar and he came with a cup of sugar and a tablespoon.

While he was still holding the sugar cup, I took the spoon to fill some sugar but had to say no later. You would have done the same if you found some black particles and few ants in it.

I told the waiter that the sugar is no good. He took back the sugar and never arrived. I had to enjoy sugarless coffee. Good for me!

The customers were pouring in and the waiter had no time to serve us the clean sugar. My mom was waiting for the sugar. I told her it is not going to come.

Hygiene Matters

In Bengaluru, even the Pani Puri vendor on the streets have started wearing head caps and gloves to project that they are clean. That trend isn’t here!

The staffs were not wearing caps, gloves and they were sweating. The kitchen was visible to the visitors and did not guarantee hygiene.

The Mylari's are famous for their Masala Dosa. They have their customer base. Now it is time for them to concentrate on hygiene, quality and even ambience.
