The Diwali Plan
Diwali is one of the important
festivals of ours and like every year, we planned to travel to Mysore to be
with my parents on the celebration.
Medhu Dosa (Set Dosa) |
Nammoora Thindi Nagarbhavi
There are several routes to hit
the Bengaluru-Mysuru highway from my residence but I chose the Nagarbhavi route
so that we can have our breakfast in Nammoora Thindi.
This restaurant is in my favourites
list, this is one of the best for the south Indian breakfast dishes. They not
only offer a quality food but offer more variety as well.
A typical restaurant in Bengaluru
offers basic south Indian dishes but very few restaurants offer extended menu. The
dishes like ragi dosa, akki rotti, palak dosa etc., which are available here,
is very rare in other restaurants.
However, my regular orders here
are idli vada, masala dosa and medhu dosa.
One should try the medhu dosa (medhu means soft) here for
one reason that not all restaurants can offer such a soft dosa. This resembles
the set dosa available elsewhere but not as soft as this one.
The crisply masala dosa with the
evergreen combination of potato masala, coconut chutney and sambar is at its
best here. However, I am worried about the amount of oil used in its
preparation. Usually the restaurant cooks use more oil to prepare masala dosa
and they are visible when it is crispier.
This time we tried another dish,
the potato pakoda. This is similar to French fries but more localized with
local ingredients and deep-fried in oil. I ordered it by the look of it; I had
never tasted it before.
I hesitate to give full marks to
the potato pakoda, as three of us were not able to empty it. May be we had
already consumed other dishes a lot. May be the potato pakoda is best as an
evening snack and not worth an order for breakfast.
The curd vada was the ultimate. We
enjoyed not only the vada but also the curd to the end. It is worth a try (for
those who are not allergic to the curd).
The coffee in this restaurant is
at its best. Anybody here should try the coffee!
The Nammoora Thindi restaurant is located
near the Nagarbhavi circle. The restaurant is crowded most of the time. The
crowd is nothing but a testimony of the quality of foods here.
The Nammoora Thindi restaurant is
a corner building. The parking space is available in the crossroad. Couple of
years ago, there were ample space but was not clean. Now many buildings have
come up and the space has reduced drastically.
Two more eateries have come up next
to the Nammoora Thindi restaurant. That includes a big shop selling Indian
savouries and a non-vegetarian restaurant.
